Through personal experience, I find that alcohol magnifies whatever mood Im in. If I'm in a really good mood and my life is resonably stress free my good mood is over exagerated and I become a bit over happy. If I have unresolved problems and I have general negative thoughts I do feel very depressed and my negative thoughts become even more negative and i feel I'm being swallowed into a black hole. This could be because alcohol is known as a depresent.

Yes it does because it is a depressant. The alcohol acts on the mind and body by physically depressing it. Bodily functions slow down and the happy hormones that are normally produced in the brain are also depressed. Long term drinking therefore can and often does lead to depression.

Hope that helps.

From a recovering alcoholics standpoint, it has been said in the past, that if you are feeling bad when you drink and you drink to make yourself feel better. It will take away the pain that you may be feeling prior to indulging, however it will still be there when the alcohol is gone, thus a cycle starts and people continue to drink and drug to avoid that feeling of depression. Alcohol is a disease and it will destroy you if you let it. I know

Alcohol IS a depressant. Everyone is different, but for most, you feel better for a while but then a bit down. It also stops you from sleeping soundly.

Best to enjoy alcohol now and then but not too often if you are affected in this way.

As opposed to what many may think, alcohol is, in actuality a downer, not an upper. It slows down motor and mental functions and may result, not in depression, per se, but in feelings associated with depression.

Alcohol is a depressant drug - it slows down the action of the central nervous system. Common experiences include disinhibition, relaxation, talkativeness and sociability. Higher doses can lead to loss of control (slurred speech, blurred vision and wobbly legs) and even loss of consciousness.
