Hello... well i was on the pill for 2 years, and had to go off of it because even though it was low estrogen, it still messed me up, because of the excess estrogen, it through everything out of wack and gave me terrible yeast infections. When i stopped taking it my problems went away. I now use condoms, but i would also like some other bc just to be safe. Have any of you tried the NuvaRing? The shot is out of the question (too much progesteron, etc as recommended by my doc). How about IUD? Are they really that dangerous? Me and my boyfriend have both been checked numerous times for STDs and we've been together for 4 years and have been monogamous. We are both and school, and the last thing we need is a pregnancy. Abstenence is out of the question, so keep those opinions to yourself please. If any of you have heard of a diff kind that would great. And YAZ still has too high of estrogen levels for me (and all of this is driving me crazy ;) )!!

I would have suggested the mini-pill, but if the shot is too high in progesterone then the mini-pill would be out.
The Nuva Ring is similar in composition to the shot and the mini-pill, but the dose might be low enough (figuratively and literally) for it to work for you. The only way you'd know for sure would be to give it a try.
The IUD is NOT recommended for women who have not had at least one full-term pregnancy, so this probably wouldn't be a good alternative for you. As well, Mirena also has progesterone embedded in the body of the unit, so .....
There are a LOT of different pills on the market. It took me nearly two dozen to find one that worked for ME. It might be time to give it another try. The medical community is probably the only source for information on what may or may not work with your personal body chemistry.
If you really don't want the hormonal route, then I might recommend Lea's Shield. Its a barrier method like the diaphragm, but touts a much higher efficacy rating (about 8% failure vs almost 20% for the diaphragm).
I really urge you to make an appointment with your doctor and explore ALL of your options. Good luck.

have your doctor check your clotting factor.. it's a simple blood test.. PT, PTT, INR. If your blood is a little too thick that may be the reason the bc pills messed you up, as well as the shots. I couldn't do them either. The same problem will exist for the ring. I used an IUD with no problems.... no kick boxing, of course.... but no problems.
Note: if you are too thick... it's an easy fix. so don't sweat the test.. you just don't want to develop clots, you're too young. I had a stroke when I was 32.. No high blood pressure, a clot that's when they found out I had the problem.. before that I just knew that bc pills made me sick, like you.

I am not found of an IUD (personal choice for many reasons) are they safe to use no drug or implantation is without side effects. But you have several options since you have a problem with to much estrogen. You can also try the sponge which just has a spermicide on it, or suppositories once again just spermicide no estrogen in either product. They have the vaginal condoms now, instead of your bf having to wear them. They also have the creams that are just spermicide in them but are rather messy. Talk with your doctor about your options and what might work the best for you.

The nuva ring is a little bit triky, you have to check it everytime you have sex to make sure its still inplace. I had a friend who didn't and hers fell out and she became pregnant. The IUD is also only an option for those who have had children, for the simple fact that your cervic is not lack enough and i would hurt more. But you could talk to your doctor about it they do give them to some people who haven't had babies in special occastions. If he says yes then i would go with the copper kind it has no estrogen so it won't mess with your hormones. the only risks with those is the slight risk of your doctor poking it through the wall of your uterus. So far there are not that many bc out there with out added hormones.

I have tried the ring it didn't work for me.. But I know women who love it. I am married I use comdoms to there is nothing wrong with them, but if you want a b/c maybe you should try othro tri cyclen lo that may be the best bet. There is b c for you you just have to be willing to try them. Every pill is different you will have to find the best one for you that can be the hard part because you find alot that is not right for you.

My friend was on the ring and had horrible side effects. I have friends like you that have bad reactions to birth control. Some people are basically allergic to it and can't take it. You could just try using a diaphram. I know its weird but its a thought. Just be careful, some of the newer birth control methods have bad side effects, my friend is a pharmacist and she hears bad things about them all the time.

Why not try a progesterone only pill (Mini pill). I was on micronor for almost 2 years and found it very good, with no side effects except for no periods (which I coped with very well! lol)

I have the Mirena IUD and love it. Most doctors will only place it if you have had a child first.
Good luck with your decision!
