4.5 % unemployement which is one of the lowest we've ever had. Even if all of these jobs are low paying jobs would you rather these people work then be on welfare? Spain, France, Germany and England all have much higher unemployed. Everyone where I go I see people flooding the stores and eating establishments.

Saying that the economy is bad is a political scare tactic to induce people to vote a certain way come election time.
It's a flat out lie.
The markets are good, jobs growth is excellent, unemployment is way low, mortgage rates are at historical lows, home ownership is at an all time high especially among minorities.
And the middle class is NOT shrinking. More people in this country across all racial makeup are living better then they ever have.
To say the middle class is shrinking in response to your question would be answering a lie with another lie. scare tactic with scare tactic

The causes are elections and big business.

The only way for nonincumbent of any stripe to get elected is to convince the voters that the incumbent is doing a bad job, and the quickest way to do that is to tell us that the economy is bad. As a consequence we have frequent periods where all our political leaders are running around telling anyone who will listen that things are in terrible shape. Even between election they tell us how bad it is so they can blame it on the other side.

Then there are our business leaders, who want to keep wages down despite record profits. To do this they spend a lot of time and money telling us how rough things are, and how little they can therefore pay.

These factors add up to most of our social leadership having a vested interest in the popular belief that things are bad and getting worse. It also leaves us with the feeling that things MUST be bad, because it is the only thing our leadership could agree on.

So I guess everybody says the economy is bad because they are foolish enough to believe the politicians and the bosses.

I wouldn't say the economy is bad, but the difference between the rich and the poor is increasing, and the middle class is shrinking. Not good.

Plus we're gonna take a BIG hit as soon as we start paying the deficit costs. The sooner we do, the better off we'll be.
