Figuring this is pretty easy. You want 20% of 40,000, or .20 * 40,000. That's all there is to it. Just change the percent to a decimal and multiply. OR, change the percent to a fraction and multiply/divide---I'll explain. In this case, 20% is 1/5 and you have (1/5) *40,000 or 40,000/5. Hence the expression multiply/divide I used above. I will leave the actual operation to you.

Find the amount when the base and percent are known.

Amount = base x percent

Convert 26% to decimal

Remove the % sign. Divide 26 by 100

26 / 100 = 0.26

Multiply 40000 time th decimal

40000 x 0.26 = 10400

The amount is 10400

10400 us 26 % of 40000
