Normally, the plumbing for the kitchen sink and the plumbing for the toilet all tend to join up and lead to the same place.
One will obviously impact on the other if your sewer is blocked up with coffee grounds. A big wad of anything can cause a blocked sewer.... if not flushed down the sink with enough water the coffee wad can catch the next thing flushed.. e.g. a wad of toilet paper and accompanyments... which will back up behind and so on until you have a real mess flowing out of your floor wastes and onto your dining room rug. (Actually it should overflow out of a yard gully first but people inadvertently put potplants etc over the grate and these block up quickly).
Call the plumber.

coffee grounds down the sink should act as a 'cleaner' for the pipes - and does not affect the toilet
need to be very careful what paper products are flushed -
I would put nothing other than toilet paper in there
no diapers/ diaper wipes/ feminine products
if you are having a problem - Main Line Cleaner $10/gallon
is availble from Wal-Mart in the plumbing section
works like a charm overnight - just read and follow the directions

Coffee grounds will help keep the drain line from the sink clean but will not effect the toilet.

all the water goes down the same drain so if you plug the drain a little way down it can effect the toilet. Bleach or a cleaner down the sink can help unclog it. some people use vinegar and baking soda they pour the baking soda first and then the vinegar they say it helps dis log the clog then try to get water to go down.

If your sink "shares" the same drain as your toilet you are taking a risk.

Coffee grounds are best for compost. Do not throw them down any drain! They will cause problems later.

why dont you use the garbage , its a common myth that disposals are for cramming leftovers into, they are not, theyre just for bits of scraps left over on plates and in cookware.
