In terms of critical acclaimation and hardcore gamer's favorite franchise, Zelda is number #1. In terms of franchise recognition among adult players and multiconsole gamers, during the lifespan of the Gamecube, Metriod held #1 for quite a few years, until Resident Evil 4 came out.
