So I just turned 17 and I set up my first network in my house between my brothers and my own laptop computer, he is connected to the internet and he has a wireless router in his room that i get my internet signal from, and he doesn't have a wireless internet card for his computer either and its a desktop. I set the network up through the wireless router...is this a suprising thing for a 17 year old to do or is it just a normal occurance? I was just wondering since I have thought of going into this kinda job field.
Thanks for any answers

If you are living in some countries which technology is embraced, it's nothing new. A lot of junior high kids can probably do better than you.

If you aren't living in such countries, then it's good.

But as wireless equipment are getting easier to set up, I don't think there's anything to wow about. Just following the manual alone shouldn't be too hard in getting your network set up.

The networking field is a great field to be in, explore more and build more experience.

You are a baby in your home, but at 17 year old, you are a men in the outside world already. About the network, it is a specialized field. Some good at that, some are not.

Keep working, you will build your experiences and become a networking specialist some day.

It's definitely good to get experience, but it's nothing spectacular. I set up my first wireless network in 2002.
When I was 17, they didn't have wireless networking equipment commercially available.

well as you can see being 17 years old makes you a part of the "millenium generation" which means people expect you to know a lot about computers. I didn't even get my first computer until i turned 18 so I think what you did is great.

and for everyone that thinks everything automatically works out of the box, you probably never had to find mac addys, ip addys, dns lookups and other things to get a network up and running.

20 years ago this would have been astounding, but today everything is pretty much ready to go out of the box. To be honest, I'd have been disappointed if you weren't capable of it!
