I know the area quite well. I walked past it a few weeks ago and I can confirm that was nothing odd there then.
Having looked at it on Google earth I think that what you are looking at is simply a boat moored to the island.
The Waterways Board do have plenty of blunt ended barges that they are liable to leave moored in odd places. Possibly that is a dredger or a boat loaded with junk recovered from the canal.

That area is called Little Venice. The object doesn't seem to have a shadow, like the trees and buildings do (they are very long and pointing North, indicating around midday at high winter. I would suspect because the 'object' is a regular shape, it is a actually defect in the image capture... boring I know but I don't think it'd be there if you visited! :)
