Roar is the movie.

Melanie's mom Tippi Hedren (Birds) started an animal preserve; melanie grew up around lots of animals, including lions and tigers.

I belive it was a 1981 movie titled 'The Roar' which featured people interacting with many types of wild cats, lions, tigers, cougers, etc.

Could be Roar (1981) I don't know about her dad, but her mom Tippi Hedron was in it.
