She recently started eating baby food. The first food was peas and pooped fine with the assistance of a little prune juice. I started giving her carrots and her daily bowel movements have stopped. I stopped giving her the carrots, continued the juice but still have not seen any results. She isn't straining to get it out but passes gas occasionally. Is this normal? I'm worried of course but have been told not to. Help!!!!!

That's a good sign that she isn't ready for baby food OR juice. Almost no babies are ready for solids before 6 months, some aren't ready until 9 months. NOTHING but breastmilk/formula.

Just give breastmilk or formula and 1/2oz of water three times a day until she poops.

I don't think it's major enough to call the pediatrician, unless u do, but the only thing they r going to say, & I know this from experience with my 1st baby, is to give her some pedialyte, u don't have to water it down because it's water based, do that about 3x, usually just about 2-4 oz. replace her juice bottle with the pedialyte. I also have a 4 month old & we are about to start baby food also, so good luck

Very normal but if the baby is uncomfortable you may want to try giving him alttle watered down juice. The sugar helps them retain moisture in the bowels which helps the stool come out easier.

If your baby is on solids you can put some pears in the cereal, this helps my little guy alot!

Try not to use Karo syrup if you can. It can contain botulism spores, probably not but better safe than sorry!

My sisters baby went almost two weeks, the doc gave her some glycerin suppositories and within 24 hrs she had a major pooh. The only difference is she was only breastfeeding at the time and the doc said it was normal and not to worry because she was peeing lots and was perfectly content. But be prepared when she does go, and it will probably happen when you are in the grocery store. LOL!
Good luck and try not to worry it happens to a lot of babies

Consult your childs pediatrician. My daughter had the same problem when she started baby foods. You are changing what their system is used to and therefore their system has to adjust to new ways of processing. My daughters ped said to just continue with prunes/prune juice and a day or two later she was fine .... it just takes a little bit for their system to adjust.

I never had that problem with my son and well, my daughter is only 5 weeks old so isn't on solids yet. I think a day or two might be normal but I don't think 4 days is. I would call the pediatrician and see what he/she recommends and they can tell you if it's normal or not. It may be normal but like I said I never had that problem with my son. I would call the dr just to be safe.

4 months is to young to be feeding solids. You should only give her rice cereal right now. Give her some water, a couple ounces and it should help. Watered down juice is not necessary, just a bit of water. Do not forget, formula is most important, all these veggies and fruits right now are not necessary, wait till she is 6 months for the veggies and fruits.

if she is breastfed - this is totally normal. Breast milk is a complete food and just about ALL of it is utilized, so a breastfed baby at this age may only poop once a week or so. If this baby is NOT breastfed...i would suggest that its WAY too early for these foods...go back to formula exclusively.

4 days is a long time not to poop for a baby. they are kida like pups, when you feed them you gotta walk them 10 minutes later. ave it checked out, lets just say it wouldn't be normal for my 3 kds when they were babies, now they sometimes go a couple days without a poop ( or so they tell me) but for babies, it ain't normal. change in diet never caused those sorts of results. good luck.

you may shop a checklist of regardless of you feed to this infant. If the stool is puzzling and darkish in colour there's a reason for it. If the puzzling texture began when you began feeding her rice cereal that would have contributed to the difficulty yet you will under no circumstances confirm. besides it's time to take a checklist of what you have been feeding this baby and the youngster, to her pediatrician.
