I think I know.. In the sixties there was a guy that built a Rolls Royce with a RR Merlin engine in it. If I'm correct, that was 26 litres with a crazy 9feet long block.
V10 viper? pah...
428? nope... even yanks build bigger motors... 552 anyone?
1000 bhp vieron? fast but not the biggest I'm sure.
BUT... And heres the winner hands down.
Take a look at the specs of a modern top fuel dragster..
10 litre supercharged alcohol burning 5000 bhp engines that will take some dragsters 0 to 100 mph IN THERE OWN LENGTH!!!..... Bugatti? where are you know?
A Friend of mine told me that the drag car he worked on would consume fuel at an astronomical rate.
From the start of the run it would eat 27 gallons of juice.
If you had 27 buckets all stood in a line, you couldn't kick them over faster than a funny car uses the same amount!!!
THE WINNER.

Cadillac and Chevrolet produce standard production engines around 502 cubic inches (8,200cc). There is a big bore kit for the Chevy motor that takes it out to 606 cubic inches (9,900cc).
And yes, back around 1972 there was a chap called John Dodd who built a road legal car called 'The Beast', using a Rolls Royce Merlin aero engine from a Spitfire - all 27,000cc and 1,200bhp of it.
Apparently, John's son Paul, has a 37,000cc twin-supercharged Rolls-Royce Griffon engine from a late-model Spitfire he is willing to put in a car if somebody would be interested in buying it. It develops 2,050bhp...
