I am moving to Houston, TX and I am searching for an electric company.

I found spark energy to be the cheapest among other popular companies such as Reliant, TXU and Gexa. However spark energy requires automatic online bill pay.

Is anyone currently a customer with Spark? or any experience in past at all? Please comment on their service and price

thank you

I have never been a customer of Spark Energy but I can give you some advice on this based on being an electricity broker myself. While Spark is a good company, and I would recommend them, I would think about this situation before signing up. Whether or not you can afford for a mistake. It happens. Noone in general or a company can be completely flawless. Yes, I am sure you can have problems fixed, but if for some reason you are billed inacurately and money is withdrawn from your account inadvertantly, do you have room for a mistake until the money is replaced. Futhermore, if this never happens, and it probably wouldn't, you could still use more electricity on a given month than you anticipated or budgeted for. What if your bill is consistantly an average of 200.00/month and then, like any other Texas homeowner, have a month that the bill runs up to 450.00. Can you know that you will always have the extra cash to cover for something like that. If you can not answer yes, you may want to consider another provider. Cirro Energy is one of the cheaper providers with a #1 rating for customer service in the state of Texas. This is another provider I would recommend. I personally used them in Houston. No automatic billpay required. Think about it before you choose. There are so many companies out there.

I'm a customer. Spark is customer-service light because they do everything automated. When I have called them they were polite - but how often do you really need to call them? The electric lines are owned by one entity so the electricty is "the same" and all the companies use the same place to report power outages (Centerpoint), etc. So, I would choose on price - and Spark is the best.

I am moving to my new home on 3/15 and I will be using Spark for the first time too. I don't think there is anything to worry about.
