Last weekend, the internet on my other desktop stopped working. I did the usual things I do if something like this happens (reset the router, use the MSN Troubleshooting program, check IP's and whatnot).
I'm am on a desktop connected to the same router in the same room right now, and the internet is fine (obviously). The internet on my laptop (which is connected to a wireless router, connected to the same router again) is fine.
After using the troubleshooter, it says there is a problem with the "Default Gateway". I did a little searching online and it said that that means the IP address is messed up. I did a little more fiddling with the IP, but to no avail.
I am all out of ideas and have no idea what to do. Some help would be much appreciated.

open a cmd shell, issue the "ipconfig /all" command on the laptop, then the desktop. Compare the output of the 2. Make sure your subnet mask is correct on the desktop, and that you're on the same subnet. Also make sure the gateway IP is the same. See if you can ping the notebook from the desktop and vice versa. Just a few ideas.

You will need to get some numbers from the computer that is not working and one that is. Open a command prompt on each computer and type ipconfig /all.
Check to see that both default gateways are the same. If you are using DHCP they should be the same. If they are the same check any firewall software to be sure it is not blocking access, I have seen all the major firewall softwares just quit giving access to the internet. If this is so sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling the software will fix the problem. If they are not the same, open up the properties of the network card on the computer that is not working. Open the properties of Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). Make sure Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected. If these are both OK. I hope this helps.
