Where was it bought from?
The place it was bought from should definitely replace the unit, and/or fix the battery issue. If no resolution, contact Sony directly. Make sure you have any rejection from the local sales point in writing or in an email

Yea, Duct Tape.

Honestly, as long as the damage was not caused by him dropping it or hitting it, then Sony will fix it.

Go to Sony's website and look under customer service, support or warranty to find more information as to where he can take it or where he has to send it for service.
