Yes this is what I am going through right now, my daughter was doing tons of babbling at around 4 months and stopped, now she is 6 months and is slowly starting again but mostly just yells, she has no interest in imitating me either. I was so worried about it, but then realized that my cousins daugther is 8 months and she just started babbling, and is now saying dada, so Im not worried, I know it will come. I just keep talking to her, and encouraging her when she does make noises. Shes where she should be in everything else, nearly crawling, laughing lots, sitting alone, etc but shes lazy when it comes to talking. But it will come, and when it does, we will never get it to stop.

He'll start again once he learns some new noises. My son said mum-mum-mum and da-da-da from 4 months. He even just said "mum" generally in the right context. However then he stopped, I don't know quite when I just realised he didn't anymore.
Then I really started panicking because this was close to a year of age. Now he babbles all the time and in a more sentence like pattern.
Sometimes their brains just take a bit to learn a new skill I think

That is exactly how my 6 month old is. She was chattering away at 4-5 months, then she just stopped. I'm really not worried about it since she has now moved to making different faces (which is hilarious, by the way). I think they just go through there stages. It's almost like they say to themselves, "Ok..I know I can make sounds, now lets see if I can make faces. Ok...now I know I can do that, let's see if I can grab everything I see and cram it in my mouth." LOL

You are not alone...my baby did the same thing. AT 2-4 months she was cooing like crazy then for the last month she's been silent. I too was concerned and talk to a girlfriend of mine and she said her little girl did the exact same thing. SHe told me she rememered thinking to herself "Why is she so silent now" and then one day she just started babbling.

Kids go through stages. As long as he's still interested I wouldn't worry. Don't pester him either it might be you thought it was cute and made him do it all the time and he's sick of it so he stopped. If you're really worried my advise would be take him to get his hearing tested. Other than that I'd let him be. IF he's eating and sleeping good and still being active. . . he's just fine. Let me know if you need anything twpiston@yahoo.com

Sure, with my children (4) I have had this happen my first daughter started to say (make sounds) like Ma ma and Ba Ba and all of the sudden she stopped and started making other noises as if she had never said the first... It wasn't until she was almost a year old that she started to say Ma ma again, if you are worried about things like autism they don't start to show effects until over a year, so I wouldn't worry about that it sounds perfectly normal to me...

My daughter went through a shrieking phase for a while. I do believe that it IS just pre-speech behavior. He is probably just testing the control of his tones and vocals. BUT if you are very worried, talk to a doctor. None of us are experts and a doctor is the only one who can give you a definitive answer.

I think it's actually quite common. He is just past that babbling stage and not yet to the "pre-speech" phase. As long as he's still making noises and not silent, then he's okay.

Have you had his hearing checked? It is probably fine but usually mothers have an intuition that there is a problem way before doctors notice anything. Have him evaluated just to make yourself feel better.
