it is a look... With a air brush i can apply makeup more even to the whole of the person... and i can control the amount i use... in addition.. i can get mor creative and have a more define look to the model or person it is being applied to...
It also help in the creative process because you can shape the face a lot better... and it adds visual effects... One time i was doing makeup for a this girl and her firends prom and they were all dress up and one forgot her stockings. so insetad of having themrun out to get some i waxed her legs and airbrushed a foundation on her legs to give the look of stockings....
Airbrushing is just a way to apply make up.... Although some companys offers make just for the airbrush most still use the same colors as regular makeup... I have used LIQ and POWDER in my airbrush so it is up to the artist really.

Though the earliest record of this type of cosmetic application dates back to the 1925 film version of Ben-Hur, it has recently been re-popularized by the advent of Hi-Defintion Television and Digital Photography, wherein the camera sees more detail than ever before. Liquid Foundations that are high in coverage but thin in texture are applied with the airbrush for full coverage without a heavy build-up of product. Because of the spray dot pattern the airbrush puts down, this products also reads as more even to the camera, which records the image in similar tiny pixels. It is also a highly popular technique for Special F/X Makeup, as well as for Temporary Tattoos. Specialty cosmetic companies such as Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics and Su-Do sell a variety of formulas for different applications.
Not practicle for everyday use. though you can get makeup tatooed on.

Air brush makeup is foundation put into an airbrush and sprayed on which gives a flawless and sheer look but also covers imperfections without looking caked up.
This website has the complete kits: http://www.laurelcosmetics.com/Departments/Airbrush-Makeup-Kits.aspx
I use bare essentials.com as it is a powder with natural SPF 15 and has a sheer cover yet hides my rosacea without feeling heavy or looking cakey.

regular make up are those you can find it literally everywhere that sells make up. air brush are not as common though. air brush are supposed to give you a more refine finish and flawless look. the make up is 'loaded' into an air brush and sprayed onto the face. currently the air brush make up i've seen are foundations and blusher. it's not easy to master the technique of putting on air brush make up. you have to be trained to do it properly (like a make up artist). and if i'm not wrong, air brush make up are much more expensive than regular make up. so unless you are sure you can do it very well, do not waste the money to 'try them out'.

Regular make up is available at the pharmacy....put it on with a brush, etc.
Air brush make up is put on with an air brush....its not something you just go out and pick up....you need to have training to learn how to do it properly.
And its not really the type of thing you put on everyday..it's used for photography and movies....takes time and skill to apply.
Also very costly.
