It is amazing. Talk about TCP/IP I'm learning more about theInternet everyday. Routers and computer networks are so cool. If I wanted to send a packet from Cleveland to let's say Witchita how would I do that.

There is no direct mapping between physical location and IP address.

The easiest way to do that would be to open a Wichita phone book, find a web site that is located there and do a ping with the name of the server on which it is hosted.

eg: ping www.wichitaSandwich.com

packet are what the routers/switchets turn the date into on the wire when you send an email for instance the router turns the email into binary then into a packet a packet is made of three parts the header and i forgot the other 2 its been a while

Rah-Mon Heur said to ping www.witchitasandwich.com.

That server, regardless of the name, may NOT necessarily be in Witchita. It could actually be ANYWHERE in the world.

it used to be (in the beginning of the 'net) that the server was in the same building as the company. It is way cheaper to have the site hosted. For example....I use GoDaddy.com for my hosting and they and their server farm is in Scotsdale, Arizona.....I live in Pennsylvania........

If someone is using Yahoo as their host, they are in California.

Good luck.
