I was put under general anesthetic for mine. They made a little incision just above my pubic hair line and one in my belly button. They put gas in your abdomen through one of the incisions so they can see your organs more clearly, which is done by using a small scope that is inserted through the other incision. I got a video tape recording of mine. It was interesting to see the inside of my body. My recovery was longer than I expected. I was in bed for 2 days. However, my OB discovered I had a mild case of endometriosis, which he removed during the procedure. I also had a biopsy of my uterus lining. Therefore, the combination of those two could be the reason for my longer recovery. After my D&C, I was back to work the next day. I thought the laparoscopy wouldn't be as bad, but it was worse. I would just plan on being in bed for a couple of days to play it safe. Good luck.

You didn't mention what the problem is that they are trying to correct with the laproscopy, but I would recommend doing it. The procedure itself normally consists of 3 very small incisions-1 through your naval and 2 at or below your bikini line. I had my first laproscopic surgery performed when I was 22 and I conceived twins about 6 months later. I had another one after my children were born (I have 3 children) to remove more endometriosis, then I had a laproscopic hysterectomy last year. The procedure is usually performed on an out-patient basis. It shouldn't take longer than a week for you to feel better, though you will probably be instructed by the doctor not to lift anything heavy for around 6 weeks. I think my first 2 surgeries I was feeling normal after around 4 days; but my hysterectomy took a little longer as it was a little bit more invasive. Scarring is very minimal...
Good luck!

I just had my laproscopy a month ago. I don't know what happened during surgery, as I was under general anesthesia (and so will you be). But a laproscopy is just a look-see and if they see something amiss, they fix it. They had to do a myoectomy on me while doing the laproscopy due to fibroids. After surgery I was miserable but only due to the gas from the anesthesia. It was very painful, your whole body aches. I would suggest moving around as much as you can. As far as scar, I have 3 scars on my belly...you should only have one, in your belly button from the scope...unless they do something else.

The procedure does not take long. It is not that painful they blow you up with air and make little incisions by your belly button. The worse part is after wards getting all the air out of your body. My best advice is lay flat and roll back and forth you will pass gass for a few days. Good luck and I hope they find the problem.

It is not that big of a deal just a little uncomfortable. They go through the belly button and pump you with gas so after you wake up you do have gas pains and lots of gas so stay at home and be prepared for this. You will feel fine in a day or two. Good luck.

They put you on the operating table with your head alot lower than your feet, fill you with gas, and make two incisions one in your belly button and one about two inches lower. The hardest part for me was the pain from the gas once I got home. That night I woke up screaming so bad that my ex husband wanted to take me to the emergency room.
