Yes and no.
No because Religion helps people deal with the pains of life, and helps people to get along with each other within their group.
Yes because religion can aggrivate problems between various groups. For example, "Thou shalt not kill" and "thou shalt not steal" may prevent murders and thefts within the community but they don't prevent killing and stealing from the neighboring peoples. (Just read the book of Exodus and look at the behavior of the Isrealites toward the Caanaites just after having received the 10 commandments!)
People fight over religion, but they're really just using religion as a veneer to fight over the things all creatures fight over: territory, mating rights, access to food and other resources, etc. If we didn't have religion we'd still fight over these things but we wouldn't be able to make it sound so good.
