I don't know either way. But I'm sure that one way or another our scientists are working on a technology to either avert them or destroy them before they ever reach us.... I hope. LOL

But either way, if it does, it will be instantaneous, and we'll never know what hit us in the end.

But one thing is absolutely certain. All of us will die sooner or later, so why worry?

There are a few asteroids that are going to come close to the Earth in the next few decades. However, right at the moment I don't think they know of any on which a collision hasn't already been ruled out.

Who knows, however the effect will depend on the size and where it lands. If on the USA then peace will descend upon the world, if in the ocean then some islands will be wiped out, we will just have to wait.

no - i read this also and they figured out later that it would miss us.

but we are actually due a minor collision - remember Tunguska a hundred years ago?
It happened in Siberia which is remote so no-one died but it occurs once every century so they expect another one very soon and maybe not in an isolated area.

It's allegedly an asteroid, and by the time that it gets that close to us (if at all!) we'll have nuked it into small pieces so that at worst we'll get a spectacular fireworks display as all the bits burn up in the atmosphere! ! !
