It has to do with both file fragmentation and the number of files in your documents and settings folder. Many times your computer ends up leaving space between files and file fragments which creates the extra disk usage.

Defrag can help reduce the number of file fragments which reduces the number of spaces between files and file fragments but there is very little that can be done about the the space between the files themselves.

Your file system on that drive or drive partition does have some effect. FAT32 leaves more space then the more modern NTSF used by Windows XP and NT.

If your drive is already using NTSF you can switch to file compression mode which does eliminates these spaces and will give you that extra little bit of storage space back. The downside of this is that it will slow down the speed at which your computer can access the files.

first difficulty i might do is disconnect your pc from the cyber web. there is somewhat limited injury all and sundry can do inclusive of your pc if that is not linked to the cyber web. Secondly, i might restart your pc in secure mode and run a competent spyware software, like adaware. those are actually unable to test working tactics so by technique of commencing in secure mode you're extra definitely able to stumble on them. i might then run the hunt on your pc and seek for archives that have been extra on your pc at precisesly an analogous time that this incident befell. i might delete all of them, and in case you have any questions seek the record call on yahoo and if could inform you whether it particularly is mandatory or mayb a virulent disease. wish this enables.

Don't bother. 30mb isn't worth the effort. If you want more space, just buy a HD with greater capacity or one of those external USB drives (around 70TB)

Run scandisk. This will detect the lost space and restore the files taking the space.

First, 30Mb of data is nothing that is going to make a difference to you.

Second, you do not need to worry about what that says.
