I would have to say the very much hated Ty Cobb. He single handily led the Tigers to 3 World Series appereances off his bat.

All he did was drive in peolpe with 100+ rbi's seasons in a era long before the homerun.

Babe Ruth is. If you look at his statistics vs. the stats of the players he played against, the disparities are huge. No other player has ever been as dominant in any era in the history of the game.

Barry Bonds. There's really no question about it. His competition, unlike those of the past not only includes African-Americans but Latinos and Asians as well. His statistics are unbelievable. I don't care about steroids. They don't help you hit a fastball.
