Laughter is awesome at curing depression... the times I've been most relieved from the tragedies of life have been by friends making me laugh....

Laughter lets you forget cheating ex girlfriends and broken hearts, and shows you that you are still okay after you've lost a family member.

I do suggest you put some of those boring statistics in there though... if it's a research paper, it should be at least a little scientific!

You're right though, a good statistic is worth several anecdotes, but a good anecdote can change the world.

Everyone knows that anxiety & tension & worry isn't good for you in many ways. Hospital patients are commended for being 'good patients' because they are not worriers, and endure the stay with a good attitude. When you laugh, you're not thinking at all, in the least about your condition or the present/future -- you're just reacting. Laughing = 0 tension. If anxiety is very bad (heart attacks, doom & gloom, depression), then it has to follow that lightheartedness, confidence and pure laughter has to have the opposite affect. Do jokes & flowers & good stories = healing? Then, laughter is the best medicine. Not literally, of course (because antibiotics, herbal medicines, etc. have in reality, great affect)... but, laughter if you've ever visited anyone in a hospital, takes a mind to a much better place. And the brain controls most body functions.

Laughing will help relax the mind which helps the healing process. It's hard to stay sick when your happy. But it's only part of the cure. Alternative medicine looks at the holistic approach of healing. Consider the mind body spirit connection for keeping a balance in your life.

Maybe if you're already healthy. Some people have serious medical conditions that usually require something more powerful than laughter, I agree though, that laughter can be of benefit.

No matter how sick I get if I can find a way to laugh I feel a million times better. I also enjoy making others laugh even when I'm sick . It truly is a good medicine for the body and soul.
