What effects would you use for a song like The Corrs - Long Night. I like that huge, resonating, warm harp-like sound that seems to be a standard for pop ballads. I'm trying with my Squier Strat in the bridge double, with a little compression, chorus and delay from my Zoom 505II. I've found that it's best when I hit the strings hard, but it still doesn't quite get it.

No wah-wah. Actually it's played with a Strat. See song here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r6-fntKTN4U

REVERB! Lots of reverb.

A good trick with strats is to use a lot of overdrive. Set the pickup selector to bridge/middle and turn the bottom tone knob to zero.

You'll be surprised how good this can sound.

There are some things that you have almost on every recording - compressor and reverb. Now, compressor is usually added in the master, but if placed directly on the guitar, it can increase sustain and add a slightly overdriven tone for that extra "buzz." It will also increase the input so you don't have to hit strings too hard. A reverb can change the sound dramatically, and for what you're describing, you'd have quite a bit of something very wide & spatious, like plate or hall. Chorus is also right, you can set the vibration frequency or rate to fairly low but crank up depth and level and get the harp-like quality. The song you're talking about (I just heard the iTunes sample) is highly overproduced so you won't be able to get that sound easily, but do what I said above and switch to the fourth (second from above) position on your Strat, turn up high mids a bit on the amp (if you can) and you could be close. Also, I have no faith in Zoom generally (or Squier, for that matter), but do what you can, it's not like you can throw some $600 on a bunch of Boss and Morley effects. But keep them in maind when you go shopping next.

Yeah, she has something called "pad" on - it's a combo of a heavy flanger or, better yet, a phaser and tons of reverb, with the low-rate, high-depth chorus. She uses tthe volume pedal, too.

Hmmmm....sounds like you've got the right effects going....maybe a bit more chorus?
Also, I'm not familiar with the song, but is there any wah-wah effect in it?
The only other thing I can think of is turning down the tone knobs a bit on your Strat so it gets a bit of a warmer tone.

Sounds like what you are really looking for is a humbucker tone. You won't quite get there with a single coil.
