I heard that a daycare in New Orleans is charging mothers more money if they provide breastmilk for their babies instead of formula, because breastmilk is a biological fluid. First off, this is ridiculous, but, I want to know if it is true.

Through more research and the link that was provided, the daycare is in Ohio, not New Orleans--sorry about that! But hey, that is what this is for, right?? To have questions, answered.

that is soooo dumb....i just looked it up too. i breastfed my girls and it was the easiest, cleanest, smartest thing that i could do for them...if the daycares had a problem with it, they sure never told me. i work at a daycare now in New Mexico and i would rather deal with other peoples breast milk than try to give a baby that is used to it a bottle of formula. I would be so upset if i was that mom.

That's insane! It's not like they're coming in contact with the breastmilk. It should go straight from bottle to baby.

Also, I used to work at a daycare, and there are many other bodily secretions like urine, snot, poo, and yes blood from noses or falls to deal with. so, why would milk freak them out????

I suddenly feel TOTALLY lucky that my daughter is babysat by my family.

Since more than ten hours a week separation from mommy is devastating to the intellect, social skills, attachment, physical health, and emotional well being of an infant and toddler, with the likely outcomes being depression, anxiety, broken families, school problems, etc (NICHD data), what on earth does it matter that they charge to provide breastmilk?

They are places that are destroying several generations of American children while everyone pretends that raising primates like they are crate-trained puppies is a-okay.

I would think a diaper littered with fecal matter is more infectious than breast milk..I accept pumped milk, I just need to know how long I can keep or whether the mom can pump enough for me to freeze it.I put labels on the milk baggies so I know who`s is who`s. I thought in today`s society we were more advanced than this.

OMFG!!!!!!! That has to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard! I hadn't heard of the day cares doing this but read the article jill........gave link to and I just can't believe it. It should be your choice what you baby eats(as long as it doesn't harm them of course.) And you should never have to pay extra for giving them breast milk.

Well..it's their choice and it's the parents choice whether they want to pay it or not. It's similar to charging more for infants then toddlers because infants wear diapers and take more work.

I say if a parent does not agree with it, find another daycare.
