I was 8 years old and my brother caught a bluegill from our pond. He couldn't get the hook out and I felt sorry for the poor guy so I put him into my family's fish tank. When I was 16 my boyfriend bought me a 30 gallon and I started on the salt water. (We won't say how many years ago that was!)
We had a pond growing up with a fresh water waterfall dumping into it. I used to love to take bread or what ever and go down and feed the fish and the ducks. That was my "get away" My yard now is all landscaped with walkways and lights and benches and ponds. I love to take my coffee or my laptop in the warmer months and just sit and watch my fish and listen to the water. I have lighting for the evening and it is just a peacefull place to sit and relax. Even my neighbors come to visit and feed the fish.

When I was a teenager. I had a 10 Gallon tank with some gold fish and guppies. That's now grown to a 150 gallon with several species of cichilds from South America.
It's like having the Discovery Channel in your home. Very peaceful.

I grew up always having a fish tank in the house. When I moved out my first husband was military, so we moved alot. It wasn't until I was in my late 20's that I was able to get a fish tank of my own. My husband's grandmother purchased me a small tank. I've since gotten a 30 gallon tank and plan on purchasing a larger tank so I can have a regular tank and a salt water tank.

I started a couple of weeks after Christmas. I don't know what it was (whether seeing some aquariums or having Finding Nemo as one of my favorite movies), but something got me hooked. In the last month and a half, I have done as much research as I possibly could, purchased all the needed items, and am currently cycling my 55 gallon tank with my zebra danios. I am excitedly looking forward to getting my next batch of fish!

Back in college. I was living in the dorm and we couldn't have pets (furry ones you know) so I got a little 1 gallon tank, but that was a disaster as 1 gallon tanks tend to be. I ended up getting a 20 gallon and had much more luck with that.

I started over 30 years ago and got a little 10 gallon with some guppies. They bred and the shop bought the babies from me. That's all it took, I was hooked LOL

A little over 5 years ago. Maybe because my wife had a dream? Started as a 20g tank, and has grown to over 700g's and now I breed african cichlids and synodontis catfish =). Keeps me occupied and is very relaxing.

I got a fish tank for christmas one year. I could not decide what to put in it, finally I chose fish. It provides great entertainment for my cats, and they are easy to take care of.
So I guess basically, I got pets for my pets.

My parents bought me one when i was about 8 years old. I had one for a few years, but lost interest in it, and in high school, made friends with a group of guys who were aquarium enthusiasts and got back into it. I now have an aquarium sitting in my living room.
