i think you are going to find that there is a drain line, usually a black rubber hose, running to the side of the disposal unit. it is probably clogged at the disposal.

Fix the disposal, and your diswasher problem will likely be resolved. Most dishwashers drain into the upper part of a disposal (above the blades) so that stuff that may be coming out gets chopped up to prevent clogs. In all likely hood, that stuff is blocking that drain line because stuff is sitting on the blades and causing it to block the dishwasher drain hose.
Replacing the disposal is not that difficult, but make sure that you have to first. Sometimes they just get hung up and you can break them loose with an allen wrench on the bottom of the disposal, and they will work fine. I once somehow got a quarter lodged in mine and it would just sit there and hum when I turned it on. I was able to dislodge it with the allen wrench technique.
I recently installed a new one in about an hour and 2 trips to Menard's.

A drain hose from the D/W to the disposal may be clogged. You'll need either a flat tip screwdriver or a 1/4 in nut driver,
( sometimes 5/16) loosen the clamp, pull the hose off CAREFULLY, and clear the gunk in the hose. This happens when the disposal grinds up food, and some gets into the hose from inside the disposal.

You need to change your broken disposal. That will cause that. What is wrong with your disposal? If it is making a humming sound, lot of times you can put the end of your broom stick in there and work it loose. Then it works like new again. That will probably take care of your dishwasher problem too, if it hasn't gotten too bad. Good luck.

if the dishwasher replaced into put in surprising the sink water particular no longer enter the dishwasher. If the drain hose from the dishwasher isn't looped over the perfect of the dishwasher (older fashions) then sink water ought to pass into the dishwasher, in case you have a extra moderen type the drain hose has a examine valve in it so the water can no longer pass lower back in to the dishwasher. stable success
