I would, to visit my family, but I left because of the crime and bad politics. South Africa, Columbia and Iraq are the three most violent countries in the world.

If you are thinking of living there, then I personally would not recommend it, but if you would like to go for holidays then enjoy, it really is one of the most beautiful countries on this planet.

I would definately ask for some advice on what you can do to keep safe on your visit and where to go.
There are plenty of us South Africans on Yahoo answers so just include South Africa in your question and we should find you.
cheers

Alf Garnett IV --- we're only in MARCH 2007 buddy !!!!!
Can you see all that stuff happening on Table Mountain in December, in your magic ball ????????? Such an informative answer, I must say -- but pay a little attention to the finer details next time, ok.

I am from SA apie, and would recommend it to anyone as a holiday destination. One of THE best places on earth, and Cape Town was voted as one of the 10 places to visit before you die. There is a lot of kak going on over here, but it's the same all over the world.

I`d love to go. Years ago, when it was considered politically incorrect to even wish to visit, I heard from various people about the natural beauty of the place. I would go, given the chance, just to see the plants and look at the sky. Supposed to be one of the loveliest skies visible from our planet. I want to see that.

I sell the country day in day out, and would answer definitely yes! It is often described as A world in one country. There is something for everyone children and adults. The lush scenery on the Panorama Route and abundance of game viewing in Kruger, cosmopolitan city of Cape Town, whale watching in Hermanus, dolphins in Plettenberg and Durban. Historical war stories in KwaZulu Natal. Township tours, wine tasting on horseback (no drink driving on this tour!). Need I say more oh yes amazingly friendly, welcoming and knowledgeable locals. Someone previously said about having / using commonsense totally agree but you have to use this anywhere nowadays. UK crime is just as frightening - look at the children shooting each other in London now. I cross my fingers as I type as I hope it remains this way - none of my clients have ever been mugged it is all about choosing the right areas / properties to stay. Don't get me wrong I know crime happens but it is a problem worldwide. I have been fortunate enough to see many places in the world from Canada to Australia and much of Southern Africa and some of the Carribbean and South / Southern Africa wins for amazing breath taking scenery - South America I believe is strong competition though. I hope this has helped you.

Definately, I have been to South Africa twice already, visiting family (my husband is South African) and getting away for a lovely holiday, we got married there almost 2 years ago! It is a beautiful country, I wish we could visit more frequently but is so expensive to get there, especially now that we have a little baby girl! I would highly recommend it as a holiday destination, but I do think that there is no point in going if you cant go for at least 3 weeks, as there is just so many beautiful sights to see and places to visit! If you are thinking of going, I would say, go for it, you will love it, but I would also recommend that you stay away from jo'berg city centre, my husband told me about what it is like, but I actually did not believe him until I seen it for myself!!! Go for it!

My friend is South African. I wouldn't like to live there. Her parents are still out there on a complex which has to be guarded. They also can't get their money out to return to the UK. But holidays wise, apparently it's lovely. You just have to keep to the safe areas which I suppose you have to do in any country.

I would go - AGAIN!! Have been three times already and was constantly fascinated, pleasantly surprised - the three best holidays of my life, in fact.

You must go on safari while you're there, definitely. It is an experience not to be missed.

I live there and would recommend it for a holiday destination to anyone. There are such a variety of places to see and things to do at a very cheap rate considering the exchange rate. The Hotels and the staff are world class and the service is excellent. The beaches and game reserves can;t be compared. If you stay away from the inner cities it is perfectly safe.
