That's just a simple minded stereotype, the kitchen and the home belong to the family and they all must help each other no matter who's the cooks.

The way it works at my house, is we both work full time jobs, so who ever gets home first starts dinner. Then we both clean up afterwards. I usually cook on the weekends though. I don't believe it should just be a place for women, if you have extra time you can help out.

This is a cultural issue.
Most good restaurant have male Chief Cook or Chef until recently.
With both husband and wife working full time, this responsibility is shared and should be shared, and more and more couples are going to be sharing in the future.
