My mom is a small person. I don't think she is even five foot tall and SUPER skinny. She has always been small but here lately I've notices an extreme drop in weight. Ok, last spring to find pants or capris to fit her waist she had to shop in the little girls section! Then she dropped about 10-15 lbs! She doesn't eat like she is supposed to really and she eats junk food and fruit. She might have weighed 90 lbs last spring but I'm betting on a major weight loss since then and she doesn't need to lose. I'm so worried, she won't listen to me or my family when we talk about it. She also skips meals and then eats a really big one on the weekends.

Should I take her to the doctor and get them to recommend a healthy eating plan? i'm thinking of doing this and if I have to and going on the plan with her if thats what it takes. I've already lost my dad to cancer almost 12 years ago and I'm determined not to lose her.

Any suggestion?

Take her to the doctor's. If she is ill, your mom seems to be in denial. Her eating pattern is all over the place and needs to be sorted out. She's letting herself get run-down and weakening her immune system. Believe me, I understand why you are worried about cancer. I lost both my parents to it and seen the weight loss. It's heart breaking. Tell your mom your fears and how it's upsetting you when you remember how your dad suffered before he passed. There are other reasons for rapid weight loss, including eating dis-orders and diabetes. Good luck with your mom, and you take care.....EDIT....ASHLEY..Why is your answer the same as mine, word for word?????

If you can convince her to go to the doctor then do it. Does she have a doctor that she goes to regularly (yearly physicals, annual gyn exams)? If so they can determine how much weight she has lost and hopefully they will run tests to determine why. It will be important for you and your family not to judge your mom and to try and be patient with her. Hopefully she will feel all the love and support and will get on the road to being a healthier person. Good luck!

make a doctors appt for her today. She is lossing weight and that is not good for her old age. I am sure she is depressed and needs help from you. Take it gentle with her though. Sounds like you truely love your mom and that is gr8. I hope she feels better soon and gains some of that weight back. Take care.

Get her to the doctor ASAP. That type of weight loss is serious. Good luck.

Get her to a doctor asap. Her eating habits may not be by her choice. She needs to be check for medical issues just as much as psychological issues. It may be an eating disorder but it could also be medical.
