Is it better to build a new home on a slab or crawl space? I know it's more expensive to do the crawl space, but is it worth it?

Both have advantages and disadvantages.
A monolithic slab can crack and shift. Cracks are never good. They let critters like ants and termites in to the house. Also, most slab homes have all the plumbing run under the slab. Repairs can be very expensive.
A house with a crawl space can settle and shift. Crawl spaces are a great hiding place for snakes, skunks and all kinds of bugs. But, you have ready access to plumbing and utilities for repairs.

I'm not an expert or anything but I did just recently move in to a house with a slab foundation from a house with a basement. If you can do a basement do a basement if yu can't you might want to go with the crawl space. I don't really have a problem with cold floors but the whole house seems colder. Another problem I have is ants. I had ants in January! I think this is because I'm right on the ground and they come up from cracks in my foundation.

depends on where you live. if the winters are mild and you pour it thick enough you may be ok with a slab. if i were building it, it would be a crawl space or a full basement. a crawl space if put in correctly is no more likely to shift than a basement . put a good vapor barrier over the soil in the crawl space to help with moisture problems. you just cant beat the added space of a full basement tho...

Crawl space, I would think. At least you can insulate in the crawl space and get away from the cold floors that a slab has.
You also get a little exra storage space with the crawl. Good luck

well, a crawl space is better, but a full cellar is much better and worth the xtra money. shouldnt be THAT much more. i speak from experience.
