Avant-garde is a French word to relate to artist movements. Then extended to other specialities and events. Literally 'ahead-guard', it's a concept to say anyone or anything exploring and try to enlarge and enrich first his-own knowledge. So you can be an avant-gard painter, there is an avant-garde film, you could be an avant-garde of a battalion that first come in an enemy land. There,s scientific avant-garde too. The relation is very strict 'cause the 'avant-garder' is son of his mother, it could be very hard being avant-garder without having a consolidated experience on his-own specificitiy.
