With the fish you have, doesn't really matter. Usually if you turn the light on in the morning and turn it off at night, that is fine.
No specifics on hours here usually 12 but really unless you have specialized fish or plants, it doesn't matter. If fish need to rest, they will if the light is on or off. Goldfish as well as a few other fish will change color or have their color lighten if the light is off for too long.

The light has no direct affect on your fish - you can leave it off all day or on all day - as long as there is enough ambient lighting (from windows or other room lighting) for the fish to see by during the day then it really doesn't matter.
With my planted tank as an exception, my tank lights only go on when I get home from work, and stay on until I go to bed. By only using them when I'm home to observe the tank, algae growth is minimal and very easy to keep on top of.

Fish need a normal dark/light cycle. If you have the light on when you get home at night, only leave it on until you turn the lights off at night. It's not good to leave it on 24 hours a day though. They need a "night time." If they are in a "dark" house during the day, then it is OK to leave the light off while you are at work, esp. if you are going to turn it on when you get home. Also, fish do not have eyelids. It takes them 30 minutes to adjust to new lighting. So, if you walk into a darkened house, don't turn their light on first. Turn on the lights in the room and then the fish light after about half an hour.

If you have plants, 12 hours every day would be ideal. If not, then 10 hours is better. Set your lighting schedule close to the "schedule" of the sun. For example, I grow plants in my tanks, and my lights come on at 7:30 and go off at 7:30.

If you don't have any live plants then you don't need them on but 10 hours a day is good to give the fish a sense of day and night. I have mine on a timer that turns on in the morning and off at night but as long as you turn them off at night so the fish can sleep it is up to you as far as when you want the lights on.

you need to have like a timer on your light. fishes need to be accustomed to both light and dark throughout the day; just like humans do.
