This doesn't exactly answer your question because I think you are looking for civilizations that no longer exist; but, I've always found it interesting that just 400 years ago, Spain was the wealthiest country in the world. Today they are 8th.
I like to use Spain as an example when talking to my fellow Americans about arrogance... the way you can get caught up in believing your economy is invincible when your country has the wealthiest economy.
By the mid 1600s, Spain had spent ALL its new world looted gold in foolish intrigues and military and royal maneuvers ignoring her economy. Also, Spain after 1630 also had multiple politically currupt monarchies and a deteriorating internal and international infrastructure...

Well, there's Babylon, Rome, Greece, Ur, Chaldeans, Sumerians, the several Chinese civilizations, the Mayans, the Aztecs, etc....the list is almost endless.
But they have all eventually crumbled as either stronger forces took over, or eaten away by lesser groups.

This is such a massive question, you can't really expect to get an answer. You also fail to define "great" - what, in your eyes, makes a civilization great.
If this is a homework question, your teacher needs some serious help.

Seems that most civilizations reached the pinacle of their knowledge and prosperity, then fell apart from within.

Greeks, Romans.....What makes them great is their systems of government, historical figures, wars of conquest and how those conquests eventually bettered their land........trade with other lands, exchange of ideas, exploration .....that kind of stuff.
