I'd go for the Simpsons. I do like Family Guy but the Simpsons is more for family viewing, so in my opinion it's more simple to enjoy!

simpsons over family guy, simpsons is simply classic, especially seasons 3 - 10. family guy is a rip off of classic simpsons episodes. although family guy is a great show, like the episode where peter gets in touch with his femine side and tries to breast feed stewie, then again the simpsons episode where homer gets a gun, smokes weed, and becomes the beer baron are timeless.
