You need:
1) Your high school transcript (graduated or not), must be sent directly from high school to the college you're applying at to be considered "official"
2) Your GED if you did not graduate from high school
3) A good explanation of what fulfilling things you've been doing these past two years. Even if they haven't been that fulfilling, be able to explain to what you've "learned"
4) An explanation of why you want to go to college now and why you think you'll be successful at college
5) An SAT I (with the writing section) or an ACT with Writing score; you must have taken this test within the past five years
6) One or two recommendations from either employers or past teachers or some combination of the two.
Best of luck.

Basically you apply.
Decide which University you want to go to, and check their web page. If you meet their requirements (or you're close) get together the paperwork they request
(usually high school transcript, an application form, a little essay about yourself. In the USA they sometimes want test scores, and it varies by state. SATs are the most common.)
You may have to do some additional things to get in, like community college or taking SATs, if you haven't already.
I don't see any problems caused by the 2 year gap. That's a pretty small gap, considering the average college student in the US is over 25 years old!
Good luck.

Colleges don't care how long you've been out of high school. I was going to include that they only care if you had good grades, but now, that doesn't seem to matter in a lot colleges anymore.
Choose several colleges you are interested in, and apply. They'll let you know if you are accepted or not.
(p.s. - I went into the army for four years directly out of high school, and easily got into several different colleges after that. Some wait to apply after they retire. There's really no problem.)

That all depends on where you want to go. You have to decide what places you want to apply. Next, I would advise you to contact the admissions office (which you can find their number online on the particular school's website) and ask them for an application packet. Additionally, I would suggest applying for Federal Student Aid. You can do this online now at the FAFSA website. This will determine whether you will get any aid (money) for school. Once you've completed all the paper work I would recommend setting up an appointment with an admissions counselor. Actually, you can do this at any point in time because it will be helpful to ask for help and guidance from someone through the process. FYI: You will need your highschool transcripts and for some schools SAT scores to get in. Research all this before you apply. Good Luck! It is never too late! :-)

If you graduated you can still request a transcript be sent to your college, or you need to take the GED to get you into a college. Then, all you have to do is apply as an undergraduate or whatever you would be considered and then write a good essay if needed. The essay and GPA are what gets you in. Hope this helps- I had the same circumstances and I'll be graduating this May. It is possible- I've proven that. Good luck.

I think you need to start by getting an AA degree from a local community college. Then, you can transfer into a full 4 year college to get a BS or a BA.
