There are men who are homemakers. Alot of women make the money for the family. There are men who are unable to work. But there are also the women who make considerably more than their husbands. I have known a couple stay-at-home dads.

Since when is that not possible? In current society, women who work actually have MORE to do than those that don't because (and this is socialogical study information) the men do not take over 1/2 the home responsibility (I am not dissing stay at home moms...I am paraphrasing study data). If a man wants to stay home and do ALL the things that a stay at home mom would do, then I cannot see a woman turning that down. There's nothing like coming home after work, kicking off your shoes, being served dinner, crawling into a freshly made bed, and waking up to clean clothes and a clean house!

i guess society has always projected that the woman is the "nurturer" and the man is the "provider"....
while i was raising my children, i worked (except for 3 years with a sick child).
i think a couple has the right to decide who will work or who will stay home.. i think most men are driven to provide for their families, though.. maybe it's human nature?
most housewives don't "sit" at home. there is laundry to do, housework (if you are inclined to keep a nice home, which was important to me), maintanence of the home -- painting, etc. Groceries to buy... bills to pay. There is a yard to care for, children to feed, dress and deal with (emotionally and physically). children take a lot of care, time and energy, and so does maintaining a home.
it was very taxing for me to work and keep a home, but i did it....
i don't know if you're married or not, or where you got the idea that the partner who opts to care for the home, just "sits"....?

My son stayed home while his wife worked. He was better with the children and she liked working. He didn't just sit around though. He kept house and took the kids to their activities. Dinner was made every night. Now that the kids are all in school he has gone back to work. It worked out well for them.

Are you dim...LOL? Women and men have the same choices. In today's society, unless you are very well off, both parents end up working. Do you really think that being a homemaker is easy?? LOL...they recently compared being a homemaker as having 2 full time jobs. Let's see...you clean, do laundry, cook, nurse sicklings, wipe butts, and noses, do the shopping, teach...a constant entertainer...LOL yeah...I'm sure you'll get a lot of sympathy here...LOL.

It can be done either way. My brother is the homemaker in his family while his wife works. In our house we both work in order to support our family. I've also worked and supported our family while he went to school. You just do what needs to be done to take care of your family regardless of who is the one bringing home the bacon.

Men can stay home and women go out and work =) I have friends who have done it. I'm not sure why it's rare, but yes, it does happen =)
