The Gov't doesn't need to regulate what people eat!!

If I want to eat fries, and a big mac everyday....it is my business not the govt's business.

People don't need a tax break to eat healthy either.

The "fat tax" issue has been raised by several questioners in Answers: have a look,; it's quite amusing.

One of the difficulties with the "incentives" scheme, which, at first sight seems excellent, is that it will encourage people to gain weight, only to win the incentives when they have lost it.

And it would encourage people to bribe their doctors (or whomever was to weigh them in order to have their weight recorded) as much more than it actually was.

The best solution for the West's growng obesity is to increase public opprobrium, and to make it easier for them to use bicycles to get around.

How about this. Government should just leave people alone. If someone wants to eat themselves to death let them. Taxing bad behavior is in a sense fascist. It all depends on who defines what behavior is bad. Try this one, because the vast majority of AIDS sufferers are gay men lets have a gay male tax. Perhaps because a disproportionate number of crimes are committed buy black males lets have a black male tax. You certainly would not argue for incentives to stop gay men from having sex or black males from committing crimes. Oh wait they already have incentives, it's called having a better life

We need the money for medicare, mediaid, social security, welfare, the congressional salaries. and pay all the government employees. Incentives that are in the form of money come from the pocket of every person that works for a living.. and that includes the corporation that if they aren't making money will close down and move to Bangladash.. geesch we don't have more money to just hand out!!

Isn't good health and longer life enough incentive? If they choose to do nothing about their personal situation, too bad for them. The government already meddles in our lives too much as it is. Just another step towards the Nanny State.

You can only charge people for being fat if you also charge the anorexics for being too skinny and also draining NHS resources. Works both ways, So incentives for both - one to lose weight and the other to get some on.

Coz it would give Gordon Brown the opportunity to put another hike on the already over taxed Brits - too many fatties out there - they need to sort out their diets and do some exercise now and again!

You can't tax people for being fat - but you should be able to refuse treatment for self-inflicted (non incidental) injuries.

I'm not just talking about being fat (which includes me). The smokers (of which I'm one) the drinkers (of which I'm one) and the druggies (woo I'm not one).

If you drink/smoke/drug yourself ill you should have 1 chance at having it put right. The next time you go, they should kick you out....

It's everyones right to eat/drink/smoke whatever they want - so long as I don't have to foot the bill....
