After I feel like I've hit rock bottom, I try to take small steps, it'll be hard, but that's why you're doing it slowly, start with little things that you like about yourself and play it up. And praise yourself about things that you do, like how the bed looks nice after you make it, or wear a little bit of color. Those are things that help me out, hope you find stuff to boost yourself up.

If it's after a prolonged period of clinical depression it will, as someone said above, take time. There is no one answer for everyone, and just saying find something you enjoy doesn't really cut it. One of the worst things about depression is that the things you like can become meaningless, and the more people try to push you to do them, the harder you try to enjoy them, the worse you may feel. If you can find something you enjoy, do it.

Also, try to remember that before you were depressed you had good days and bad days, and you will now too. But one bad day doesn't mean you are "relapsing," it just means you are having a bad day.

Oh and one last thing - sadness and depression are very different beasts, sad is okay sometimes. If people around you don't recognise that, try to explain it to them - one of the best ways I found to get back on track after my "breakdowns" was to try to spread the word, as it were. There is nothing so terrible that it can't be talked about - or laughed about either!

All the best to you. And remember, it does get better.

You should feel a lot better if you no longer depressed so you must be doing something right. Just keep yourself motivated and positive and I applaud you if you are no longer depressed cause it is a sad and lonely illness that only you can solve. I have suffered with it for years and still dont know whether its my past, my present or worrying what the future will bring, so well done and good luck in the future.

Sex and Alcohol are NOT the way to make yourself feel better, those are ways to drive yourself into a hole. DO NOT listen to the people who said that, they are irresponsible.

Take any medication prescribed by your doctor and get outside. Walk, enjoy the sun (which we've had here lately). If you are financially able plan a vacation somewhere nice.

Whatever you do, don't stay locked up in your house. That leads to worse depression.

The safest way is that after depression you must not wait to feel happy. It is unrealistic.

First, you try to feel calm. Take your time. Relax. As if you are recovering from a high temperature situation. And after this stage, happiness will find her way. With ease.

Get outside in the fresh air and take a nice long walk, bike ride, run, or anything else active. It is a proven fact that sunshine and exercise help put us in a better mood.
