If ever in that situation again, tell them jokingly that you invading my space. Sounds like he was just trying to make you feel comfortable, and you may be uptight as a lot of young people are. Too much "abuse" talk has put everyone on edge...sometimes people just want you to be comfortable and do not think first about how you may interpret it. If he knew what you thought, he'd probably be mortified.

Well, I wouldn't make a big deal out of it. Although I wouldn't be put in a situation were you have to be alone with this teacher. You never really know a persons intentions. And if he gets more touchy feely with you, then let him know you are uncomfortable.
