Also that you will not be able to smoke in the street?
If so - where can you smoke? My friend is horrified and
would like to start a petition. She said she will die if she can't
smoke. I told her she will die if she does!!!!

Smoking outside in a public place should be banned too, anyone who smokes within a 2m zone around me should be dealt a smack, I don't want the filthy crap in my lungs, eyes and on my hair and clothes, its a disgusting habit thats crippling the health service, time people stood up for the right to breath clean air no matter where they are.
Should also be law to not smoke within 3 m of a pet or a child its abuse and should be prosecutable

yes its true - where have you been for the last year?! I think you can still smoke in the street but not in pubs and restaurants. I really cant see it lasting - pubs will lose far too much business and there'll be loads more alcohol related violence when there are crowds of people on the streets. If your friend wants to sign a petition to the government I would imagine there's already quite a few in circulation

It's true, there is a ban on smoking in enclosed public places from 1st July.

You can still smoke on the street but they're still debating about things like bus stops... does this constitute a public place?? Probably not in my opinion but who knows what these crazy politicians will come up with next.

If your friend wants to start a petition they can by visiting number10.gov

It'll be for enclosed public spaces, so smoking in the street will not be banned. It's mainly aimed at pubs and restaurants.

There's already a similar ban in place in Ireland and Scotland.

The exemptions will be places that are considered to be "home" and in England that means obviously your own home, hotel rooms and prison cells and in the case of prison cells, it seems that local rules will prevail. Hotels, if they want, will be allowed to set aside smoking rooms. Not too sure about the rest of the UK. There is a debate as to whether private cars will be included in the future.
