No and no.

Religion is a "man-made system" of do's and don'ts which attempt to offer a solution to the Sin/separation from God problem that is different from what God says is THE ONLY answer. In other words, God don't like religion.

Well, i think that it depends on who you are asking to, it may be that an atheo and a religios both be as good as the other and for one is irrelevant and for the other is not.
For many people it is chief, i think that it is because thinkig about an all-mighty and powerfull being protecting you sounds very good, so it might be helpful because even if it were not true people would behave better in order to go to hevens after death.
For me althoug i believe in God i am not affiliated to any religious group because you must adopt dogmas to join them, and i am not able to disscus or defend something i have not proof of.

The spiritual needs of people are still real. The real danger is when the spirituality gets in the way of rationality.
