If you are referring to a horse-like creature with a single horn protruding from its forehead, then no. Had they been real some fossil or remains would've been discovered somewhere.
However, a few years ago I remember seeing a report on TV where someone was trying to create unicorns out of goats, somehow having a goat that had one, centered, horn versus two. I don't remember seeing anything about if that was determined to be a fraud or not, but that's the closest 'real' unicorn I'm aware of unless there have been any other horned animals who ,through some genetic mutation, ended up with one, instead of two, horns.
They are fun to imagine though, aren't they?

In a way they are real. What has come down to mean Unicorn is a magical horse with a single pointed horn sticking out of the front of its head.
It may be that it became a mythafied version of the Rhinoceros, whose horn is also supposed to have mystic properties.
Similarly, the Centaur (half man-half horse) was a fablized account of natives seeing men on horseback for the first time.
A lot of mythology has some seeds of truth.

I heard that they once were real. Before the great flood, the one in the Biblical story about Noah's Ark, that there were Unicorns. These creatures were very vain and like to admire themselves and be admired. When time came for them to get on the boat, they were so arrogant and stubborn that the two chosen were off admiring each other forgot, and came to the Ark too late. They missed the closing of the door.
So the moral of the story is, don't be so arrogant, stubborn, or vain that you miss the boat, or miss out on life.
This was the story told to me as a child, I hope it helps.

Okay, I'm a little surprised by all the no answers. I think it's possible that a version did exist at some point in history.
Why not? People are willing to accept that humans used to be fish, but no species of horse ever had even a little horn (like goats, for example)? That doesn't make very much sense to me.
Don't forget about the fish we thought was extinct for over 60 million years until we found ONE, and realized we were wrong. So maybe they did exist.

No, unicorns are not real. The unicorns mentioned in the Bible are more likely to be another animal but when translated from the original text, the translators got it wrong.
There have been animals whose horns have been so perfectly symmetrical, that when looking at their profile they appeared to have only one horn.

No. A theory which makes a lot of sense is that many of our mythological creatures were created to explain exposed fossilized bones. Take mammoth skulls for example, they have a single hole in the middle of their skull, so viewed from the front, it would appear as a giant skull with a single eye.

Unicorns are fake. Horses don't have horns. Horses also don't have wings. Horse is horse. Why people keep thinking of adding weird things and imaginations on it?
Poor Horses...(T_T)

As real as you want them to be. Mermaids, leprechans, sprites, imps and whatever kind of "mythical" creatures you fancy
