The best book I've ever read has to be The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, followed closely by To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. I'd also recommend Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway. A Separate Peace by John Knowles is also worth looking into.

Hands-down, the best book written in America in the past 20 years is called "Youth in Revolt" by CD Payne. As proof of my bold statement, I offer the following story:

The book is basically a sex farce about a 14-year-old boy who is totally infatuated with a girl from out of town. Both are the intellectual equals of the Berkley professor who wrote the book, and it is written at a graduate-student comrehension level. I gave the book to my ex'es little brother for his 14th birthday. He owned three guns and a car and had never read so much as a comic strip, let alone a sophisticated book. It was so funny, though, that not only did he read it ten times, he gave it to all his farmer friends and they all read it too. I taught an entire town's bad kids more language skills with one book than ten years of school. There is a laugh on every page. Enjoy it.

My favorite american author is Mark Twain, but as an american, I must admit I prefer Dostoevsky, Dickens, Jane Austen, Tolkien. Best book? Probably Crime and Punishment or the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit, or Wind in the Willows.

One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest par Ken Kesey.

C'est mon livre préféré, pas de question. L'histoire est au propos d'un criminel qui est mis dedans une institution mentale. C'est un peu litéraire mais très interessante.

(Yeah, my French is really bad too.)

The Giver by Lois Lowry.
Short, powerful, thought-provoking. Makes you appreciate life, but not in a depressing way.
