I read that when not using the battery for more than 30 days, its best to store the battery in the uncharged state. With a full charge, but under no load, how long will a battery hold its charge? The reason I ask is there are periods of more than 30 days when i dont use it. However when i do need it, I dont want to wait an hour to charge the battery. Ie if i dont use it for 40 days, and then i use it, can i expect to get much out of it before it needs to be recharged? thanks

I have two of these batteries, one for my drill the other one I use in a light. My experiance is if the battery has not been used for a long period, 30-40 days, it will still have a charge. Rarely have I had to charge the battery to use. If I had to I gave it a fast charge, approx. 5 minutes and then was good for quite a while.

I have never heard that rechargeables should be stored in an uncharged state myself.

Ni-Cads used to lose about one percent charge per day. I haven't seen ratings for the newer flavors.

A "smart" charger will NOT overcharge a battery and you can leave them parked in there when not in use. These run $50 to $90 each. Some will even fully discharge a battery before bringing up to full charge. If you aren't sure about your charger and easy way to tell is if the battery is very warm after 24 hours of charging each and every time you check it. A smart charger will drop the current way down and not impart damaging heat to the battery.

They shoul keep their charge for a fairly long period. I can go six months and they still have their charge. Good luck
