Purchased a New Home Memory 7 used - no manual unfortunately - can't get it to do a basic stitch! It sews 2 or 3 stitches and the needle jumps to the left. When I check it, there is a TON of thread under the material. Any ideas what is going on? I don't even understand how to thread this thing, I can't see where the thread is going.

Quite possibly you may have the bobbin in upside down and the thread is coming off in the wrong direction. Put the bobbin in so when you pull the thread the bobbin turns clockwise. If this isn't the problem you may be having tension issues but really if this is a nice machine take it and spend the 50.00 to have it serviced by a sewing dealership (technician), have them show you what you may be doing wrong. Also you may not be threading it right. Here is a link that may be usefull to you. I'm a sewing machine tech and you may e-mail me if you have any questions or can go into more detail. When you get to the site, scroll down until you see New Home. Hope this helps. Good luck.

Something is going on with the bobbin. I would suggest you ask a friend that sews. It's probably something easy like the thread isn't in the bobbin case, or you aren't pulling the thread up before you start. Get a friend.

I have a Memory 7 and the left is the default position for the needle. It will make an ugly mess if it is not threaded properly, upper or bobbin. Hope you figured it out. I see this was years ago
