Does anybody's XBox 360 lock up on them?

I have a relatively early unit and it locks up quite a bit. Do the newer models do the same?

The biggest culprit for locking up early 360's is overheating. Make sure your unit is in an open area, and not placed on carpet. If it is in an enclosed area, say an entertainment center cabinet, then invest in a Pelican Fan Stand ($20 at GameStop and Best Buy) to help circulate air through the unit. You don't want your 360 to sit in its own warmth; circulation is key. If you have it sitting on its side, use paper wedges, poker chips, or aything stable that you can find to place under the corners to raise it up a little and allow air to flow beneath it.

The 360 circulates best when standing up, since less surface area is being covered. I do not recommend the Nyko Intercooler, because it makes direct contact with the the power intake on the back of the 360, which gets really hot on the early models - risking the fan actually MELTING to the 360, and ruining it.

A good rule of thumb; always having plenty of open space behind the 360.

The newer model's do not and if your's keeps locking up and has a manufacturer date before Jan 06 then you can get your's fixed for free. Hopes this helps.

if you have it connected to live, it will update the software in the xbox...is it locking up during games?, signing into gamertag?....one of my 360's locks up while playing DDR, it has given me a disc unreadable error on gears of war a few times but nothing that has driven me crazy.
