My friend has one with 140,000 miles on it that needs an axle... He wants $2500 for it and says it's worth 4k but he's too lazy to sell it... Will it last much longer?

Sounds like a lemon, don't buy it. Big deal if he's your friend. Friends don't sell honda civic's to each other to be friendly.

Jason you know your friend better than we do, you say he is to lazy to sell his car, which I would be inclined to believe he was also too lazy to do oil changes, tire rotations and small maintenance on the ride. You don't tell us how old the vehicle is, condition of the body, condition of the interior. You likely rode in this car with him how did he drive? Is he reckless, curb jumper or did he pamper this ride? Much too consider. Best results would be to take to the local garage and ask for a professional opinion so they can check out everything. Good luck

You should get a couple more years running at least - anything up to 200,000. Depends on the condition of the rest of the car. Has it been generally well maintained or did your lazy friend forget about basic maintenance? Get a mechanic to check it out for you.

without an axle no but if it were running properly it would last into the 200,000 mile range. Civics are the longest lasting cars on the road hands down. the car will not last if the axle is broken. but that is easily fixed

well you will no doubt have regular maintenance issues but if you keep up that you should be fine. some people dont maintain their cars and they die out before their time.
