I try to apply the same logic to anything else, and it seems to not work, why?

first respondant, that didn't help at all. Doesn't it make more sense to support the war, whether just or not, in the basis of raising troop morale?

It does work though...
Under the "chickenhawk" argument, you cannot make military decisions unless you were in the military - that is the argument used against Bush and Cheney.

Unless you have an MBA or worked in business, you cannot sit on the SEC or make any decisions involving business.
Unless you are a lawyer, you should not vote on judges because you don't understand the courts.
Unless you are a doctor, you cannot vote on anything involving medicine or pharma.

They are ALL bad arguments. This is why all politicians have advisors, research aides and why they hold commissions where experts testify. The "chickenhawks" have the Joint Chiefs, the Pentagon and numerous generals and strategists advising them on courses of action, just as all politicians do...Just as regular citizens have access to information to make informed decisions as well.

In particular, the worst chickenhawks are those who were asked to serve in a war during a time of draft, and did not serve whether by deferral or evasion.

There is a general belief that those who have seen front-line combat at some time in their life will have greater empathy with current soldiers, deploying them only when necessary, and appreciating their service when it is requested.

The logic is that it is easy to support a war when you are not fighting in it or making any personal sacrifice. Also known as being an armchair soldier.

Lose the War and make Bush look bad...WIN the Government, TAX the hell out of anyone earning over $20,000 and if you earn a million over 4 years...tax you like you are already a MILLIONAIRE (Gore's Idea).

Chicken hawks are a great name to those that love endless war, but refused to serve when they had the chance.

Like Dick Cheney getting 5 deferments to avoid Vietnam.
