yes, but what is the alternative? You need something to be sure that people know when you are being funny or sarcastic. WIthout facial expressions or vocal tones, its the best you can do.

But am open to other suggestions.....

Yes and No.
For those around since the Start of the Net, Yes.
For newbies, possibly not, but who knows. There seem to be definitely new acronyms for all sorts of things that say the same as LOL

yes it can be sometimes espeically if a person uses it in every single sentence or word they type :P i might use it a few times when nessary only. maybe it really stands for Lack of Laughter ? Ever thought of that ? ;)
